  • Lamberts Bromelain 1000GDU

Bromelain, an enzyme derived from the stem of fresh pineapples, is probably best known for its use as a digestive aid, especially to assist in the digestion of fatty or high-protein meals. Recent research however, has turned many experts' attention to its use for helping sports people with sprains and strains. It is believed to inhibit the body's production of prostaglandins associated with inflammation and pain whilst promoting the formation of those with an anti-inflammatory action.

Bromelain can also work well when taken in conjunction with ~turmeric//P8571~ so many practitioners recommend taking the two products alongside each other. In fact Bromelain appears to aid the absorption of curcumin, the active compound in turmeric.

To be of use, a bromelain product must contain at least 2000 gelatin-dissolving units (GDUs) per gram, which is why it is important to use a high strength product such as ours, which contains this relevant level.

  • Lamberts Curcumin Ultra 60 Tablets

Lamberts® Curcumin Ultra contains a technically advanced turmeric extract that has been specially prepared to greatly increase its absorption from the digestive system.

One established problem with curcumin is that it does not easily dissolve in water and it is this feature of the compound that is believed to significantly limit the amount that can be absorbed from our digestive systems. For this reason a number of turmeric extracts with 'enhanced absorption' have been developed and this product contains one of these called CurcuWIN®.

CurcuWIN® is manufactured utilising proprietary UltraSOL„¢ technology. This is a molecular dispersion process that enhances the bioavailability of poorly absorbed nutrients and increases water dispersibility of fat soluble ingredients such as curcumin.

Importantly, another benefit of CurcuWIN® is that it provides the curcuminoids in the same profile as they are naturally found in turmeric. In your practice, Curcumin Ultra can be used in any situation that you are currently recommending turmeric for, with the huge advantage of being significantly better absorbed. It can be taken on a long term basis as the nutrients provided by the formula are at safe levels.

  • Lamberts Acidophilus Extra 10 (60 Capsules)

Our digestive system is colonised by billions of bacteria and most of them are harmless. However, during times of stress, travel, illness, changes in the diet, and taking antibiotics, the unfriendly, pathogenic bacteria sometimes overwhelm the live bacteria.

Lamberts® Acidophilus Extra 10, is one of the UK's strongest probiotics. Each capsule contains 10 billion live bacteria (at the time of manufacture), with the advantage that only one capsule per day needs to be taken. We use the beneficial Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium strains of bacteria. Lamberts® was one of the first companies to produce live bacteria capsules in the UK (over 30 years ago) and we have developed expertise in this area. To ensure proven targeted release for acid-sensitive ingredients such as live bacteria, we have:

    • Specifically used delayed release capsules
    • A special desiccant built into the tube wall of the pot
    • Refrigerated storage conditions until despatch
    • Vegetarian capsules made of plant-based cellulose with 3 times lower moisture content than typical gelatine-based ones.

  • Lamberts Acidophilus Extra 4 (60 Capsules)

Our digestive system is colonised by billions of bacteria and most of them are harmless. However, a favourable balance between the beneficial and the pathogenic bacteria must be kept in order to maintain a healthy system and its regular nature

Lamberts® Acidophilus Extra 4 is a top selling, acidophilus product containing 4 billion beneficial bacteria per capsule (at the time of manufacture). We use the beneficial Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium strains of bacteria. Lamberts® was one of the first companies to produce live bacteria capsules in the UK (over 30 years ago) and we have developed expertise in this area. • Lamberts Aloe Vera 10,000mg

Lamberts® Aloe Vera tablets provide 50mg of concentrated extract equivalent to 10,000mg of fresh aloe vera juice, making this one of the strongest aloe vera supplements available. A huge industry has been established for the growing of aloe plants and the extraction of the juice and the precious gel from the leaves.

Aloe vera is now popular in skin creams where it is used to cool and soothe the skin, but there has also been a lot of research on taking the gel orally, which has led to millions of people drinking aloe vera juice every day. This is because it is believed to help maintain a healthy digestive system. However, proper aloe vera juice has an unpleasant bitter taste which is why we think tablets are a more convenient way to take aloe vera. It also means we can guarantee the potency of the ingredients, whereas liquids are very variable in strength, do not store well and are often heavily diluted so that the bitter taste is not apparent. And the liquids often have gelling compounds to make them look thicker, plus lots of flavouring and preservatives!

  • Lamberts Artichoke Extract 8000mg

Artichoke's use as a herb was first documented in the 4th century BC. The herb belongs to the plant family Asteraceae, which includes milk thistle. Also known as globe artichoke, the plant produces large purple and green flower heads and is distinct from Jerusalem Artichoke, the edible root vegetable.

Traditionally, artichoke has been used to help ease the discomfort in the upper abdomen or lower chest experienced by some people after eating. Modern research has led to practitioners extending its use to patients experiencing disrupted bowel health, and for those with impaired fat digestion.

It is the leaves of the artichoke plant that contain the active compounds, the most important one being cynarin. Lamberts® Artichoke is a high potency artichoke extract standardised upon 5% cynarin, to give a relevant level of 16mg cynarin per tablet.

  • Lamberts Betaine HCl 324mg/Pepsin 5mg

As we get older, our bodies begin to slow down and our stomachs are no exception. As we age hydrochloric acid production frequently declines, but remains important for the breakdown of food in the gut. Hydrochloric acid has several different functions; for example it sterilises the ingested food, acidifies it, and activates a powerful protease called Pepsin that breaks down protein as well as allowing vitamin B12 to be extracted from foodstuffs. The food then passes into the intestines, where it is further digested into the various nutrients ready for absorption.

This supplement will help to replace some of the lost acidity in the stomach, thus aiding the digestion of food. The tablets are designed to dissolve in the stomach where the acidity is required.

  • Lamberts Candaway®

Under normal circumstances there is a carefully controlled balance of yeasts and bacteria in our digestive system that acts to maintain health. One of these organisms is a type of yeast termed Candida albicans and is generally no problem to us. However, under certain conditions including antibiotic use, the contraceptive pill and diets high in sugar, uncontrolled overgrowth of this yeast occurs resulting in candidiasis (often simply referred to as candida). This may affect the entire body and can result in a wide range of symptoms including bloating, food intolerance, Athlete's food, headaches and eczema. Most practitioners generally recommend a change in diet that excludes yeast and sugar, along with a supplement programme designed to help readdress the balance in the digestive tract, and heal the gut, as well as support the immune system. So we are delighted to introduce Candaway® to the Lamberts® range.

This unique, high potency formula, contains a natural complex of herbs and spices that may help to maintain a healthy balance in the digestive tract. It includes cinnamon bark in combination with olive leaf, fennel seed and oregano. When using herbs and spices in Lamberts® formulas, we always ensure that we use the correct species and the relevant part of the plant. This is why we have specifically used cinnamon bark since it is the bark, as opposed to the oil, that is principally documented for cinnamon's therapeutic qualities, including its antimicrobial and antifungal activity.

  • Lamberts Digestizyme®

Digestive enzymes are secreted into the digestive tract to break down food matter into its component nutrients. These can then be absorbed across the gut wall into the bloodstream. If this enzyme system does not work effectively, optimal health cannot be maintained because of the failure to absorb the nutrients needed. Also, undigested food passing into the large intestine will be fermented by the resident bacteria, causing flatulence, bloating and diarrhoea.

As we age, our natural production of enzymes declines and it is recognised that during illness enzyme production can be significantly reduced. In these situations a supplement providing suitable digestive enzymes can make a useful contribution to the smooth working of the digestion process.

Digestizyme® provides a broad spectrum of plant-sourced enzymes, which digest protein, fat and carbohydrate. The advantage of plant-sourced enzymes is that quality control is assured and the potency can be guaranteed Digestizyme® is one of the UK's strongest enzyme formulas and it can only be compared to other manufacturer's products if they quote the units of activity of each enzyme not just the weight.

We have chosen enzymes that are largely resistant to degradation caused by the highly acidic conditions in the stomach so that they will still be active when they reach the small intestine where most digestion takes place.

  • Lamberts FOS (Fructo-oligosaccharides)

This product consists of a special carbohydrate called Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), a form of soluble fibre, which is found in many vegetables such as chicory and onions. When you take FOS, it passes through your digestive system undigested until it reaches your bowel where the friendly bacteria use it as a food source. The result is a rapid growth in the 'friendly' bacteria, such as Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus species. This is what is called the 'prebiotic' effect, and as the friendly beneficial bacteria multiply, the harmful pathogenic bacteria and yeasts are suppressed. This leads to better bowel tone, more regular movements and a reduction in digestive 'upsets'.

After just 2 weeks of taking 8g of FOS daily, research has shown that FOS can significantly increase the number of beneficial bacteria in the gut by up to 10 times. This is why many researchers working in this area believe that prebiotic products are greatly undervalued compared to the popularity of probiotics.

FOS is extracted from chicory roots and is suitable for all ages, including children and pregnant woman, as well as those on yeast-free diets and those on medication, and can be used on a long term basis. It is a sweet soluble powder that can be mixed in to cold or hot drinks, sprinkled on cereals or eaten of the spoon.

    Daily intake: 2.5g to 10g

  • Lamberts Ginger Capsules

This versatile root has an incredible range of applications that have proved useful to mankind. Ginger is known to be a carminative, which means that it can help release excessive gases from the digestive system. Some practitioners have found that ginger is useful for other gastrointestinal complaints, such as the discomfort in the upper abdomen experienced by some people after eating.

More recently Ginger has been used as an aid to headache sufferers (Please note; undiagnosed headaches should always be investigated by a GP). Ginger is also growing in popularity with practitioners for use in programmes designed to help maintain healthy joints.

At Lamberts®, we use a standardised extract that has the active ingredients of ginger concentrated down to a dark rich paste that is dissolved into sunflower oil and supplied in capsules. Using this method ensures that the active constituents such as the gingeroles and zingerone are preserved. It takes over 14 grams of fresh ginger root to produce 120mg of ginger extract, the amount found in just one of our capsules! Each capsule provides 24mg of gingerols, which are volatile compounds that are easily lost if ginger is cooked, dried or crystallised. Very few supplements provide this level of gingerols, and in fact many do not even declare a level on the label.

    Daily intake: 1 capsule

  • Lamberts Lactase Complex 350mg (9000FCC)

Lactase is a digestive enzyme required for the breakdown of the milk sugar lactose. Lactase should be produced in the small intestines, however if little or no lactase is produced or if production is impaired, undigested lactose moves into the colon where it is fermented and hydrogen, carbon dioxide and organic acids are produced often resulting in cramps, wind and diarrhoea.

This intolerance to lactose is not life threatening however, it can make patients feel very unwell and although eliminating milk based products is one solution, it can prove impractical as well as resulting in a very restricted diet. Lamberts® new Super Strength Lactase Complex 350mg is equivalent to 9000 FCC (Food Chemical Codex)*, making it one of the highest strength and best value products available to practitioners with no compromise on the quality.

  • Lamberts Peppermint Oil Capsules 100mg

Peppermint has a long tradition of use as a digestive aid. The volatile oils contained in peppermint, particularly menthol, are the key active ingredients although the other constituents may also contribute to the plant's renowned therapeutic effects. Lamberts® Peppermint Oil capsules contain 100mg of pure natural peppermint oil, a high strength extract distilled from the leaves of this plant. These capsules preserve the volatile oils in a way that is not possible with mint sweets and mint teas. In fact, the amount of mint in each capsule is up to 12 times stronger than even the hottest mint sweets.

Much of the research and usage has tended to focus on peppermint oil's role in the management of symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). IBS is caused when the gastro-intestinal tract behaves abnormally. The muscles of the gut become hypersensitive, leading to fierce contractions, which can be painful. Studies have shown that Peppermint oil can calm these contractions for some individuals. This natural product is not a cure, but we have plenty of anecdotal reports that it is a useful supplement for many people who use it. However, the only way to know if it will help for any one patient is to trial it. In some countries, mint tea is regularly served after a meal, and in the same way we recommend that one of these capsules is swallowed after each large meal.

  • Lamberts Probioguard®

Probioguard® contains four carefully selected strains of friendly bacteria, Bifidobacterium bifidus, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii. These species of bacteria are specially selected for use when travelling, as local cuisine can expose the gut to new challenges where different bacteria strains may be present and this can unsettle digestion.

    Probioguard® is suitable for:

    • People considering travelling abroad
    • People who have used a course of antibiotics
    • People with regular bloating problems or on-going digestive disturbances.

This product is stored in refrigerated conditions until despatch to ensure maximum potency. The special pot also contains an inbuilt desiccant, as viability of probiotics is largely determined by the moisture content of the atmosphere surrounding the capsules. These vegetarian capsules are made of plant-based cellulose with a 3 times lower moisture content than typical gelatine-based ones; an important factor when considering live bacteria supplements and an excellent alternative.

This product is suitable for people of all ages.
